Christian Aid
We are passionate supporters of Christian Aid. Our fundraising is focused into Christian Aid every May, when a house-to-house collection is undertaken, but we also arrange events throughout the year.
Our church, along with Ulleskelf Methodist Church and St Mary's Church in Church Fenton, have raised over ?6000 for Christian Aid's work since 2002.
Christian Aid Week 2010
Christian Aid week 2010 will be held from Sunday 9th to Saturday 15th May. The week will begin with a coffee afternoon at 2pm on Saturday 8th May, followed on Sunday 9th May by a joint service of worship for all ages at the parish church. Then as usual the main event of the week will be a house to house collection. COLLECTORS WILL BE NEEDED! THIS IS SOMETHING ANYONE CAN DO! RING 01937558022 TO VOLUNTEER.Christian Aid Week 2009 - Total
Many thanks to everyone who donated time or money during Christian Aid Week. A total of ?1,665 was raised by the Church Fenton and Ulleskelf group. This could pay for:-
- a tube-well for a community in Bangladesh
- Solar panels for a health centre in Malawi
- A community workshop in Peru that helps farmers learn essential skills
- Hand tools for two nurseries in Kenya
As usual, villagers in both Church Fenton and Ulleskelf responded with generosity during the house-to-house collection. It really is a case of 'every penny counts', so all donations, however small, are worthwhile and can make a real difference to the lives of some of the world's poorest people. Even the foreign coins and odd buttons that found their way into the collection envelopes can be used!
Book Sale
Many thanks to everyone who attended the Book Sale at Ulleskelf. We raised around £100 which will be shared between Christian Aid and the Choma Orphans project.Christian Aid Week 2009 is over
Christian Aid Week is over for another year. Many thanks to all who helped by distributing and collecting envelopes, and to those who donated their money in these difficult times.Christian Aid Week 2009
Christian Aid Week is a time for ordinary people to unite and make change happen on a grand scale. Last year in Church Fenton and Ulleskelf, we raised over £2500 throughout the year to help the world's poorest people.
That's people like Nadia Kaula who lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Her father died suddenly two and a half years ago. Her grieving mother, Brigitte, struggled to provide for her six children. Even though Brigitte works gruelling 48 hour shifts, some weeks her transport costs total almost as much as her weekly salary. Nadia had to drop out of school to care for her siblings while their mother worked. Many girls in similar situations are forced to turn to the sex trade in order to raise money. However, Nadia heard about a tailoring course being run through her local church, funded through Christian Aid. She has since completed the course and now teaches the new intake of girls. Nadia is confident that she can earn a good living from sewing and she is clear about her priorities: "If God helps me, I will do all I can to take care of my siblings and my mother."
